Student Olympiad "Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia"

For seven years, the Kazakh-German University (DKU), with the support of its partners, has held an annual Olympiad among students in Central Asia. Initially, the focus was on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), contributing to the capacity building of future specialists representing the region. Beginning in 2020, the University has expanded the Olympiad's focus to include the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) developed by the United Nations.

Objective of the Olympiad:

Conducting this Olympiad in HEIs of Central Asia gives the opportunity to get acquainted and deep into the world of knowledge on actual and constructive topics for today, to get acquainted with modern mechanisms and levers developed by UNO to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Armed with useful knowledge and broadening their horizons, students will find it easier to choose their career path. In the future, the educated youth of our region could act as a driving force for sustainable development in Central Asia.

Also, the Olympiad will serve as a base for creating conditions for young specialists in Central Asia to communicate with each other and with colleagues from other countries. The students, as future specialists in their fields, will be able to see once again that the development of their countries will directly depend on the development of the region as a whole, and the goals of sustainable development can be achieved through joint efforts only.

The Olympiad is carried through the general testing questions of the sections mentioned below:

  1. "Integrated Water and Land Resources Management,
  2. "Climate Change and Clean Energy",
  3. "Industrialization, Innovation, Infrastructure and Sustainability of Cities and Human Settlements".
