Ecology, sustainable development

Ecothon is a supportive program for students who want to develop entrepreneurial skills to implement an eco-project and make university life more comfortable, environmentally friendly, and modern. The project (competition) was originally initiated by the Center for Natural Resources and Sustainable Development as a separate project, but now the competition is held as part of the Student Olympiad on Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia.

This year Ecothon competition was held in March 2023 as part of the development of the Sustainable Development Goals program at Kazakh-German University.

The goals of the project:

To promote environmental and social entrepreneurship among DKU students, providing an influx of innovative environmental ideas to enhance the sustainability of KNU and improve the overall atmosphere of the university.

Beneficiaries:

• Republic of Kazakhstan: Kazakh National Agrarian Research University;
• The Kyrgyz Republic: Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after K.I. Skryabin; and Skryabin Kyrgyz National Agrarian Research University;
• Republic of Uzbekistan: National Research University "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers";
• Republic of Tajikistan: Shotemur Tajik Agrarian University;

Expected/actual results of the project

According to the results of the project, the selected participants in the Ecothon will be trained and will prepare a draft of the eco-idea as a sustainable solution for one of the SDGs at the Student Olympiad in 2023.
