Overview

The objective of the project

Holding this Student Contest in Central Asian HEIs provides an opportunity to get acquainted and delve into the world of knowledge on current relevant and constructive topics, to learn about the modern mechanisms and levers developed by the United Nations to achieve sustainable development goals. Equipped with useful knowledge and broadened horizons, it will be easier for students to choose their career path. In the future, an educated youth of our region could serve as a driving force for sustainable development in Central Asia.

And also, the Student Contest will serve as a basis for creating conditions for young professionals in Central Asia to communicate with each other and with colleagues from other countries in a language everyone can understand - the language of progress and professionalism. The students, as future specialists in their respective fields, will be able to convince themselves once again that their countries' development will directly depend on the development of the region as a whole, and that only by working together can sustainable development be achieved. only by working together can the goals of sustainable development be achieved.

Project beneficiaries

● Universities of the Central Asian countries training specialists in fields similar to the Student Contest topics;

● Sectoral national ministries responsible for decision-making in national and transboundary water management, ecology and natural resources, energy, industry and innovation, sustainability of cities and human settlements, as well as partnerships for sustainable development.

● Students from all Central Asian countries, as well as from Afghanistan, who are studying or interested in ESD topics are invited to participate in the Student Contest, namely:

● Students of higher education institutions that study IWRM courses, "Integrated use and protection of water resources", ecology, meteorology, energy, technical courses related to the industry, logistics and innovation;

● Students of higher education institutions who study "International relations", specializing in national and international water law;

● Students of institutions in the field of "environmental impact assessment";

● Students of higher and specialized educational institutions that receive the qualification of technical (engineering, agro-technical and agronomic) skills for optimizing the use of water resources.

● Students of higher and specialized educational institutions, that receive the specialty in "Architecture" and related fields.

● Students of higher education institutions studying "international relations" and specialising in partnership issues at global, regional and national levels.

Actual results of the project

The Olympiads were held in two stages and divided into 3 thematic sections for each of the SDCs within the international cluster.

● The first stage (national) was conducted to identify the most talented young specialists, who in the future will become a personnel reserve for ministries, agencies and educational institutions. The national stage of the Olympiad was conducted separately in all countries of Central Asia by partner universities of the Kazakh-German University (KNU), or other higher education institutions determined by the executive authorities of the country.

● The second stage (regional) - consisted in the preparation of business projects in the field of sustainable universities. Each of the finalists of the national stage will have to prepare a business plan in the form of a presentation on one of the following components for the sustainable development of their university:

1) educational component - reflect the business idea for sustainable development in the educational area of the university (create a new discipline, conduct trainings, make an online course, create a hobby club, etc.)

2) infrastructure component - to reflect business idea of sustainable development in the infrastructure of university (create a greenhouse, green corner, reduce resource consumption, normalize the mode of collection and delivery of raw materials for processing, apply methods of circular economy, etc.).

Project activities

The first phase was conducted in the following countries:
  • Republic of Kazakhstan:

Location: Kazakh-German University, 173 Nazarbayev Avenue.

  • Kyrgyz Republic:

Venue: Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after Akhmetov. Skryabin Kyrgyz National Agrarian University;

Date: 19 April 2023.

  • Republic of Tajikistan:

Venue: Shotemur Tajik Agrarian University;

Date: 28 April 2023.

  • Republic of Uzbekistan:

Venue: National Research University "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers";

Date: 17 April 2023.

  • Republic of Turkmenistan (hybrid format: offline/online):

Venue: Turkmen Agricultural University;

Date: 24 April 2023.

  • Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (hybrid format: offline/online):

Place: Kabul Polytechnic University;

Date: 30 April 2023.

The first stage (national stage) is held to identify the most talented young specialists, who in the future will become a personnel reserve for ministries, departments and educational institutions. The National stage of the Olympiad is conducted separately in all Central Asian countries by partner universities of the Kazakh-German University (KNU), or other higher education institutions determined by the executive authorities of the country.

During the Olympiad days, the participants were provided with tests by the partners of the Event. The winners from each of the Central Asian countries were selected by a jury of representatives of the Olympiad partners and the national members of the Scientific Organizing Committee of the Olympiad based on the test results.
