Short information:

The Kazakh-German University (DKU) in partnership with the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications (AUPET), Satpayev University and the Kazakh British Technical University (KBTU), with support from the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Kazakhstan developed the Clean Energy Transition course for Kazakhstani universities. A five-day training on the course was held at the Kazakh-German University (DKU) from February 27 - March 3, 2023 to introduce the materials of the developed course.

Among more than 100 candidates who applied for offline participation, 38 people were selected to participate in 5-day training at DKU, others were invited to join online. The participants were bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students from the fields of energy, renewable energy, ecology, jurisprudence, environmental protection and water management, as well as teachers from universities in Kazakhstan. In addition, the training was attended by representatives of specialized organizations, think tanks and environmental NGOs. At the same time, more than 30 participants connected online.

The training on “Clean Energy Transition Course” included the topics such as energy, poverty, development, political economy of energy, energy and environment, clean energy technologies, political, institutional, and financial aspects for the clean energy transition and discussions of case studies. The program also included site-visits to renewable energy laboratories of the partner universities as well as guest lecturers from USAID Power Central Asia Activity, RES Association “Qazaq Green”, UNDP&GEF and others. The professor from American university was invited to deliver lectures in Almaty. The detailed program is attached below.

According to a survey of participants, 75% of participants indicated that the topic of the training was well covered, and 72.5% indicated that they gained new knowledge from this training and 80% confirmed that the acquired knowledge and skills will be useful in practice.

At the end of the training, all participants received certificates of participation.
