Empowering youth on water resources in Central Asia (CAY4W)

The project operated from 2018 to 2022.

Central Asia Youth for Water is a regional network of youth (students, young professionals, activists, and enthusiasts) to get involved in water management issues in Central Asia.

Given that young people make up a significant portion of the region's population, our mission includes:

  • creating a network of young leaders interested and ready to address and manage water issues;
  • encouraging youth participation in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals;
  • creating a platform for dialogue among experts, organizations, leaders and active youth that supports interaction and international and regional cooperation.

One of the main goals of CAY4W is to raise awareness and involvement of young people in the problems of their homes through the implementation of local and regional projects, and to empower a new generation of water leaders in Central Asia to contribute to sustainable and peaceful development of the region through improved transboundary water management.

To achieve its goals and mission, CAY4W implements projects for young people:

  • online and offline lectures, seminars, and colloquiums involving local and international water experts;
  • presentations by young water leaders at universities and youth organizations;
  • research colloquiums and conferences among students at various universities;
  • thematic competitions and Olympiads at the state and regional levels among undergraduate and graduate students;
  • internal events to strengthen ties among CAY4W participants organized at various CA universities.
