Fourth Regional Technical Webinar on the topic: «Climate risks in the agriculture sector».
On 17-21 April 2023, the DKU hosted a Training on Renewable Energy, Energy Transition and Energy Efficiency within the framework of the OSCE-CNU project "Empowering young Central Asian women in the energy sector".
About 100 young women professionals and students in the field of renewable energy, energy, ecology, environment, and sustainable development from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia participated in the training.
As part of the 5-day training, participants visited laboratories at Kazakh British Technical University (KBTU) and DKU, Qapshagai 2MW solar power plant, the electricity from which serves the city of Konaev, and the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to Giulia Manconi, OSCE Senior Energy Security Programme Officer, “Providing women with access to adequate training and career opportunities in sustainable energy will increase the quantity and quality of the workforce needed for a successful energy transition, and the long-term energy security of Central Asia.”
During the lectures, participants studied solar and wind energy in Central Asia, alternative fuels, efficient heating and cooling technologies. The economic and gender aspects of introducing renewable energy sources were also addressed.
The participants also shared their insights:
“I am a technologist and we work on the topic of biogas. I'm making my first steps in this field now, but I hope that in my professional life, I will become more involved in this topic and connect my work or research to it,” said Altynay Yelgundinova, a student from Kazakhstan.
Asylbu Kudaibergenova, a participant from Kyrgyzstan, noted that, “Currently, there is active planning and construction of small hydropower plants in Kyrgyzstan. In the future, I would also like to be involved in their construction. At the training, I learned directly from experts who provided concrete examples of hydropower construction and their potential.”
